History – world

History – world

The socioeconomic history of Lowell, Massachusetts was for me the staring point,  the foundational course one might say, in my continued fascination with the developmental progress in human community living that was made over the millennia since those days of Neanderthal cave dwellers of Lascaux in present-day France.

Sixty thousand years of early human history is a bit more than this modest post can address, of course, but if one looks at this progress as a long arc of history, then this so-called Lowell Experiment represented a major accomplishment in the cumulative assembly of technologies now called the Industrial Revolution.

However, in this introductory section, special attention is giv en to the engineering genius of key contributor to this world-altering enterprise, which was later dubbed the Lowell Experiment.

The resulting societal changes, which eventually made a world-wide impression, remain the key elements of this story.
