Civil Defense & Nuclear Weapons

Looking back on those days following WWII and, particularly, after the successful Soviet A-bomb tests in 1949, I can now better understand the mood of the Americanl public. It was like living in a Disney-type world of fanciful hopes and asperations while nuclear engineers and scientists,both in America and in the Soviet Union, secretly prepared atomic armaments for a new international contest just around the corner.
